The DJ’s obscure 2012 dance song “Harlem Shake” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 earlier this year because five Australian teenagers used it to make a concept video: one guy dances alone, then the bass drops and everyone around him joins in. Soon thousands of people, including the Today show anchors and Mitch McConnell’s campaign staff, had made videos too, and the Australians probably felt awful about what they had wreaked.
