To promote the new season of their comedy show, Norwegian brothers Vegard and Bard Ylvisaker worked with Stargate (producer of hits for Rihanna, Katy Perry and Beyoncé) to create a song in which they very seriously sing, “Ducks say ‘quack’/ And fish go ‘blub’/ And the seal goes ‘ow ow ow’/ But there’s one sound/ That no one knows/ What does the fox say?” Their theory was that creating a song with deliberately bad lyrics would make their audiences laugh. It turned into a hit: “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?)” was No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks, despite the fact that foxes sound just like dogs.
